Responsible tourism

Responsible actions

Loving nature means protecting it too. It starts here, with the animals and their habitats — and continues at home, in the gestures of everyday life.

Part 1

Protecting nature & animals

Our core mission: preserving living creatures and the habitats that shelter them.

Respect wildlife & take nothing away

  • I never drop litter in nature (a cigarette butt or a piece of plastic can injure an animal and pollute for years).
  • I do not catch or take wild animals, even "just for a photo".
  • I never release a pet into the wild (some species, such as the red-eared slider, become invasive).
  • I do not buy animals or souvenirs derived from protected species.
  • I observe from a distance and respect the animals' peace.

Encourage biodiversity near home

  • I ban pesticides and leave a "wild" area in the garden.
  • I set up a water point and shelters (hedges, log piles, old walls, insect hotels) for small wildlife — grass snakes, lizards and amphibians find refuge there.
  • I plant local and pollinator-friendly species.
Part 2

Going further, every day

Protecting living creatures continues at home. Here are simple gestures — that make a real difference too.

Save energy

  • I switch off lights in empty rooms and switch to LED bulbs.
  • I hunt down standby power (switched power strips): TVs, routers and chargers draw power even when "off".
  • I set the heating to 19 °C in living areas, 17 °C in bedrooms.
  • I cover pots while cooking and defrost the freezer regularly to reduce consumption.

Save water

  • I turn off the tap while brushing my teeth or washing up.
  • I prefer a shower to a bath and fit flow restrictors (up to −50%).
  • I fix leaks (a dripping tap = up to 100 L/day).
  • I run the washing machine and dishwasher with full loads.

Reduce & reuse waste

  • I sort my waste and compost my food scraps.
  • I repair, reuse, donate rather than throw away (circular economy).
  • I avoid over-packaging and single-use items (reusable bottle, bag, bulk shopping).

Fight food waste

  • I plan my meals and cook with leftovers.
  • I check dates and use what expires first.
  • In France, each person throws away ~58 kg of food/year, half of it still edible.

Responsible digital use

  • I keep my devices longer: using a computer or phone for 4 years instead of 2 can cut its footprint by up to −50%.
  • I switch off my computer in the evening and close unused apps.
  • I declutter my emails, photos and online files (the cloud uses energy).

On the road & travelling

  • I practise eco-driving: smooth starts, no harsh acceleration, engine off during prolonged stops.
  • I favour trains, carpooling and active travel.
  • On holiday, I choose responsible activities and respect natural sites.

Change the way you see

The best way to protect reptiles is first to understand them. Come and meet them at the vivarium.
